The Engagement Process
Often non-executive directors are just chosen by their previous practical skills. At the IBA we think that you need to be much more specific with the type of individual you intend to invite to share the responsibility of growing your organisation with. We use a profiling tool created by the Lominger Organisation. It’s recognised as probably the leading competency profiling system in the World today.
By using this tool we have created full competency profiles of all of our potential NED’s. but before we show you how these people shape up, we spend a day working with you and your fellow board members, other influential people in your business and often even other external advisers to ensure that we understand exactly what your business needs. We assist you in describing exactly the person you need, by helping describe the skills necessary to fulfil the role you have. We then work with you to find out what other soft skills you think are critical to helping you drive your business forward.
Once we’ve established some parameters for your selection, we reference them with our data base of NED’s and then start to introduce you to some of the potential board members that are available.
The Support
Following your decision to engage one of our NED’s its important that both you and us regularly review the gains that you are making by having a Non Executive supporting you. We’ve found that often the support need changes during the different stages of business growth. For example, a skilled Operations Director may be needed to assist in creating and implementing the manufacturing processes during the embryonic stages of a business but once the processes are in place, you need a skilled Sales and Marketing Director to assist in generating orders to feed the process.
The IBA can adapt to changing circumstances in your business by ensuring you always have access to the skills you need currently without being penalised by having to fund multiple NED’s.
